The long awaited Metro project work would commence from next week managing director of MahaMetro stated. He said the work order for metro was issued last week for the route from Swargate to Pimpri.
The work is supposed to begin from Nashik Phata Chowk and would commence in 4 other location. The other location is the main building at PCMC, near Dapodi where the metro is supposed to cross the Mula River, ahead of it near railway tracks and at Range hills.
Dixit said" they would need to take clearances from traffic police this week and also discuss with the civic body as they had written to PCMC in January seeking permission to erect pillars for the metro near the footpath of Pune-Mumbai highway".
In revert to this the PCMC had suggested the pillars be constructed two-metre wide divider median between the concrete lanes and Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lane of the highway. On which the MahaMetro agreed and was given a formal approval from PCMC.
The first phase of the route would be constructed in parts of 2 km each at a time, the stretch of 10.3 km form PCMC main building to Range Hills would be conducted at the cost of 500 crore.
To avoid traffic conflicts the segments of metro would be prepared at a casting yard located within 4-5 km area from the metro route.
