The state government has rejected to merge 7 out of 14 villages including Hinjewadi and others into municipal limits. Government is however in favour to merge 34 villages in PMC limits which should happen soon. The proposal was rejected because PMRDA (Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority )has been established in June 2015 and it will do all necessary development in these villages, and so there seems no need to merge these villages in PCMC limits said one of the PCMC's town planning department official.
The municipal commissioner has asked the Pune divisional commissioner to appeal for reconsideration of the decision with state government.
The villages that were proposed for merger in PCMC were Alandi, Chimbli, Kuruli, Moi, Nighoje, Dehu and Vitthalnagar located to the north of the municipal limits and Gahunje, Jambe, Marunji, Hinjewadi, Maan, Neere and Sangawade. This proposal was submitted in September 2013 to the city improvement committee for merger. The resolution was accepted in December 2014, But then was put on hold. In February 2015 the resolution was passed with only 7 villages merger plan, which was then sent to state urban development department for final approval.
